In a recent Lunchtime Lecture, Dr David Omissi of the University of Hull examined the personal correspondence of Indian soldiers who fought on the Western Front.

In the lecture, Dr Omissi reveals the soldiers’ thoughts and fears about the conflict, as well as some of their cultural interaction with Western society. He also argues that, while many of the correspondents may not have been literate, they were undeniably aware of their literary culture.
